Rumor mill
Update: HLN.be reports that Barloworld's Mauricio Soler is the likely rider to be named, and that the team hotel has already been raided by police.
Update to the update: This appears to have been an unfounded rumor: Soler signed in this morning, and the press conference came and went with no mention of additional positives--just more UCI bashing. ( Via cycling fans anonymous.) Professional cycling can breathe a sigh of relief. And perhaps take hope that its fresh faced young new champion is clean?
Onto the race itself. Leaping Levi Leipheimer smashed the TT and almost moved into jello. In the end the GC stayed the same and we'll head to Paris tomorrow with the closest time margins between the top three ever seen in the Tour.
Here on the home professional cycling front, we should be stoked about recent Symmetrics team news, the UCI released the current America's Tour standings and Svein Tuft held onto his lead in the individual rankings, and the S-Team took the lead in the team standings. Not far down from Svein are Christian Meier in 13th and Cam Evans in 17th. There are not a lot of UCI races left this year and Svein and the S-Team are looking pretty good to hold onto to those top spots when the final standings are calculated in September. Canada as a nation is doing pretty awesome too, moving into 4th in the Nations standings and Martin Gilbert deserves some kudos for earning 100pts for his win in the continental championships. He is 12th in the overall individual rankings and his points have done well for Canada.
